As faculty and staff, you can play a crucial role in identifying and assisting distressed or disruptive students. In many instances you may be the only university representative that a student has an interaction with. The more we are able to tune into signs or patterns that a student is in distress, the sooner we can intervene to help a student who is struggling and direct them to appropriate resources.
Trust your instincts. If a student leaves you feeling worried, alarmed, or threatened, consult with someone. Please remember that you should never feel alone, there are many campus resources, such as CAPS, Consultation and Response Team, UCPD, and your own department that can help you in supporting our Bruin community.
Services for Faculty, Staff, and TAs
